The Concluding Piece
To begin with, when we say the word ‘gifted’ and ‘talented’, we think about extraordinary people with extraordinary talents evolving in a speed that a normal individual couldn’t even imagine. We think them as a perfect individual born without flaws; mainly, as those who grew up in an environment that is too good to be true. However, my definition of “a gifted person” is a normal individual that possesses the uniqueness held within the limitation of the human’s boundaries, they are the one who ceaselessly endeavors to overcome these limitations. In other words, in order to be called a “genius”, one must achieve the goal of enticing their potentials to stimulate the so called “prodigy”. And I believe that the key, more of a fundamental characteristic to success and the talent, which geniuses posses, is made through life’s most challenging moments of deprivation.
Despite the fact that gifted people are rare, they coexist almost everywhere in field relating to different crafts of arts. One can be a prodigy in a certain field of arts or possibly many. Yet, the important thing is that over the courses of time there were hundred, thousands, maybe even millions of prodigiously successful people who lived and who are still living in the world today. But what captivate most of my attention are those who are prominently gifted in music.
Just about everybody loves music; we listen to it every day in our lives. It is an essential work of art that brings happiness that produces somewhat of an inspiration and motivation from the rhythm of beats hidden within the realms of wonder. Everywhere we go, no matter where we are, we see musicians and singers compose their own songs. Why are they composing song? To entertaining others and possibly lure millions of other people with their music. Entertaining music fans all over the world is musician’s main goal. However, despite the fact that there are so many composers and musician all around the world; existing throughout humanity, I personally believe Michael Jackson is one of the best singers of all times.
Michael Jackson is a very well renowned singer, but there are tremendously an extensive amount of reasons why Michael Jackson was able to achieve the icon of “King of all Pops”. The way how he sings is an undoubtedly essential. The voice plays an important role for all musicians. I mean how on earth can a musician can be a musician if one can’t properly sing. And believe me, Michael had a voice that wasn’t too high nor was it too low, it wasn’t too much nor was it too little; I would say it was moderately the perfect voice needed on stage when performing endlessly long performances. But a performance couldn’t be a performance without all the glam in it. Jackson had a way with all the magnificent apparel; he wore clothes that were brilliantly matched with the right makeup, along with the theme of his musical compositions.
One of the other main traits would be his dancing skills. As I mentioned earlier, his dancing was one the most revolutionary aspects that led him to be the “King of all Kings”. His dance moves toppled off other musicians during that time. Before MJ’s appearance, most of the music was singing and a few dancing in the same outright position, but Michael; he ran all around the stage, danced his way back and forth. The uniqueness of it was one of a kind, which during that era when singing songs was all it meant to be a singer, MJ’s dancing remixed with the songs led fans all over the world fascinated by his achievements. Every move was special and it exceptionally matched the rhythm of the songs. The difficult moves were greatly balanced with his flexibility. It was as if he wasn’t withheld in any forms of earth’s gravitation, the complexities of his moves were predominately and exceptional endorsed within his compositions.
Other important characteristics to his astonishing success would be his music videos. Thriller, Dangerous, and Beat It is just shocking. He was able to produce a music that was pure revolution. Again, before MJ, most of the music just ended as music, it didn’t have a story outlined within its essence. But Michael daringly went ahead and made most of his well known music like a movie. It depicted what the music was about; the theme of the music in which he sang tells a short story of what he was singing. And most of the people, who were watching his creation, were awed by its presence. It was something what all the music fans wanted, and it definitely met all the expectations needed to fulfill their taste.
Finally, even if Michael Jackson was born as a genius he could have, by all mean, never earned the title as the “King of all Times” if he didn’t show his outmost care in the music industry, where competition thrives to exist, making it possible for fame to last for only a quick second. But MJ’s fame as a celebrity lasted for more than decades, mainly due to the fact that he tried his best in all of his performances. He endeavored to win all of his fan’s trust because he loved his fans and wanted to guarantee that the money spent on him was worth all of the efforts. As you could see in the video that I posted in the other section, he was sweating from the top to the bottom. If he was a genius he didn’t need to work that hard up to the point where he was ‘sweating’. Yet, he did, a sign saying that even though he was brilliant, he was just like everybody else.
As gifted and hard working as he was, the one thing that gnaws me the most is the fact that he didn’t establish his own music corporation. In Korea, if a singer ever dreams of earning a title as prestigious as MJ, one would definitely start their own firm. What Jackson should have done was start his own management firm. If I were to be the famous Jackson, I would seek out individuals who have the potential but didn’t have the money to survive in the music industry. I would offer my help and invest a fair amount of money to cultivate their talents to its full potential. And if Michael would have dedicated his time in helping many other younger generations fulfill their dreams as the next icon as “King of Pops”, he could definitely create so many musicians who would have surpassed his talents. He could have also revolutionized the whole management firms in Hollywood, and I am positive that it would be the most famous firm of all times. And not to mention all the money he could have made; he could have made tons of money from it and used that money to help even more people. From time to time I wonder what would have happened if he opened his own firm after his marriage. Would his life changed, would he divorced Lisa, would he have undergone the painful surgeries as a singer, would he have faced the same tragic death? If he taken a different course in life, after his fame as “King of Pops”, could his destiny have changed? These are some of the questions that I ask myself every day, but the funny thing is nobody knows for sure, but I have this feeling that his fate might have led him to a different path.
Michael Jackson was born in a poor black family in the year of 1958. He was the eight children in all the ten siblings. His mother was a very religiously devoted person, but unlike his mother, his father Joe always abused him ever since he was five. When Michael turned five, he had no other choice but to pursue the only option of being a musician, due to Joe’s brutality. Joe, who was also the manger of the Jackson Five forced all of his children, especially the top five who had an extreme talent in music, to be a musician at a fairly early age. And if one of them made the slightest mistake when performing in front of him, he would mercilessly beat his children with whatever was near his reach. Despite all these nightmares going on in Michael’s life, he managed to overcome his father’s cruelty by countless number of practice and effort. Due to his effort, he was able to win several talent shows and paved his way to the grand Oscars award’s performance in 1973.
The several mental abuses throughout his childhood didn’t make Michael grow up as an abuser, but he suffered from a severe mental disorder; he desired and even expressed his want of being a little boy. Many say it is a mental disorder of not wanting to accept the fact that he had grown up, but in Michael’s case; he was suffering from this disorder because he was forced to contribute most of his childhood in pursuit of the so called ‘musical career’. This eventually led the construction of the Neverland Ranch (before he got married to Lisa). One of his two main goals was to replenish the opportunities he missed during his childhood and another is to provide a place for other children who were missing a portion of their happiness. He did this by granting permission to all the children, who wanted to have some sparkling change in their lives, an upper hand to happiness and entertainment by providing them access to his private Mansion/Amusement Park. But his love for the children soon backfired, as he was accused of sexually molesting a child in 1993 and in 2005. Both of cases claimed that Michael invited the boys to his private room in order to rape them. In the end of all the trials, his innocence was testified, but nevertheless he was still detested, leaving him barely enough finical support to run the Neveralnd Ranch.
Several months after the accusation Michael was married to Lisa, the daughter of Elvis Presley, but MJ’s first marriage ended in a divorce. Shortly after his divorce he married Debbie, who later gave birth to two of Michael’s children; Prince and Paris. A few years later, his second marriage also ended in a divorce, but his love for children provided him a reason to search for a surrogate mother, who would be willing to give birth to his third children. The surrogate mother, who is unknown, gave birth to his second son; Blanket. But the love he has for his children later gave him the title of the “best father” that anyone can ever possibly have.
A couple months after his divorces, Michael had undergone several plastic surgeries. The majority of the people including his fans believed that he bleached his skin, but his skin wasn’t bleached; it was rather naturally peeled. He suffered from vitiligo: a skin disorder that causes depigment of a natural skin color. It’s a rare disease, and he absolutely didn’t like the fact that he was being speckled all over his body. The extreme animosity over the disease led him to use several chemical substances that would even out his skin color to WHITE. However, as for his nose; he have done tremendous amount of nose lifts over the decades. After MJ’s death, many plastics surgeons admitted that he did over ten ~ twenty nose job every one to two years! He not only did nose job, but he had also had several chin cleaving and even made an artificial dimples to look more like a Caucasian. But due to all these painful surgical procedures, he had an extensive amount of side effects all over his body; especially his face. To avoid the pains, he took loads of pain killers prescribed by his personal doctors. But the misconsumption of drugs eventually led to drug overdose, bringing much of a tragic ending to the former pop singer’s life.
In the first place if I were him, I would never lay a hand in my face. He should have been more confident in how he looked, because all the girls were going crazy for him. Fainting and crying in performances were due to his bewitching charms, but why on earth did he found the need to have several nose lifts? It’s kind of crazy, because he already knows from experience that the more nose lifts he had gotten the more painful it was. And the pain led him to a path of consuming infinite amount of drug consumptions, ultimately leading him to fear for what was beyond his reach. His rash decisions led many difficulties for both him and his family, and possibly to those who were passionately devoted to him in some rational ways. And as sad as it may sound, it left his children fatherless, and led the destruction to most of his happy and peaceful lifestyle he could have had later in his life. So what I am trying to say is "what is given to one person from birth should be left as the way it is". Whether it is for the better cause to straighten out problems such as ‘aging’ or for ‘perfection’, it is just unmorally unethical. By all means it is an irrational, hasty decision that will eventually lead to regrets.
However, with all the dozens of plastic surgeries aside; he was a real modal what a celebrity should be. He helped millions of people who were in need and of course those who were deprived of love. He provided them the warmth of love and satisfaction by donating his work, time, money, and effort to thousands of institutions. In many ways, Michael Jackson is a real inspiration to everybody. His works of art was an entertainment to millions of people, but the money made from it was also a remedy that helped stitched the wounds of the wretched and divine. He didn’t just say he loved them; he actually executed his words by showing his love and modesty towards others. He, in short, was a true definition of what a musician should be; a real humanitarian artist!
