Birth

Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, the eighth of ten children in an African American working-class family who lived in a small 3-room house in Gary, Indiana, an industrial city near Chicago.

Family

Jackson had a difficult relationship with his father, Joe. Joseph would regularly whip Jackson when he was boy. And although he credits his father's strict discipline played a large role in his success, he was both physically and emotionally abused during incessant rehearsals. He openly admitted that he had often cried from loneliness and would vomit at the sight of his father. Not to mention verbal abuses, saying that Jackson had a fat nose on several other occasions. Due to these remarks, he was deep dissatisfaction with his appearance.

Michael’s mother, Katherine Esther Scruse, was a devouted Jehovah's Witness. His father, Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson, was a steel mill worker who performed with an R&B band called The Falcons. Jackson had three sisters: Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet, and five brothers: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy. A sixth brother, Brandon, died shortly after birth.

He showed extreme talent, early in his life. He performed in front of his classmates during a Christmas recital at the age of five. And in 1964, he and Marlon joined the Jackson Brothers band, formed by his brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine. He was mainly a backup musician playing congas and tambourine. But as the years pass, he began performing as backup vocals. And when he was eight, he was the lead vocal of that band, which was later known as The Jackson Five. The band itself quickly drew attention and Jackson started to perform in black clubs and won several major talent shows.

Education

Troubled Childhood

Early Prodigy

MJ attended Gardner Street Elementary in LA till his sixth year. As his fame gradually grew, his education ended up in home. He was mostly homeschooled, but he managed to attend a couple of high schools. He went to both Montclair Prep in the San Fernando Valley, and in addition to his normal school life he also had several private tutors. However, despite all the effort, he was never able to graduate a high school, nor did he ever entered college due to his career.

Marriage and Children

Jackson’s first marriage took place in Dominican Republic in May 18, 1994. He married Elvis Presley’s 26year-old daughter Lisa Marie Presley; their marriage only took place for two years. A couple months after his first breakup, he married, 37 year old nurse, Debbie Rowe. Debbie gave birth to two of Michael’s children; Prince and Paris. But a year after Paris’s birth, his second marriage also ended up in a divorce. Desiring more children, Michael hired a surrogate mother to give birth to his youngest son Prince Michael Jackson II aka Blanket in 2002.

Career

Throughout Jackson’s career in the music industry, his influence has transformed the art of the music video and paved the way for modern pop music. His title as the "king of pops" revolutionized the history of dancing. In 1970, the Jackson Five became the first group in pop history to have their first four singles top the charts: “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” In 1982, Jackson released “Thriller” — the best selling album in history, with Beat It, The Girl is Mine, and Billie Jean rocketed to the top of the charts. His music videos made him a phenomenon: the ten-minute video for “Thriller” is considered one of the best music videos of all time. “Thriller” spent thirthy-seven non-consecutive weeks at number one and sold more than forty million copies. It had won eight Grammys in 1983. But unfortunately, in 1984, Jackson’s endorsement deal with Pepsi caught his hair on fire, due to the special effect while filming a the commercial.

Death

The King of Pops died in June 25, 2009. The main cause of his death was drug overdose. The drug was consumed to lessen the pain that he was experiencing from plastic surgeries' side effects.
